The April `25 (pre8) release is not working anymore on my Android tablet. The start screen appears than it shuts down. OS is Android 9, tablet is a Samsung Galaxy Tab Active 2.
Interesting… I have a TAB A7 with pre8 and I have no issue with it.
I can’t say if there has been more than one pre8 released, but perhaps you need to go back to a stable release and then go to pre 8 again.
Alan
Does the latest version require a minimum display resolution? The active tab 2 has 1280*800 pixels.
VK1AO: where to download earlier versions?
Jens
The same issue here on the Android Tablet A8. The startscreen appears, than it shut down. On the Android phone Galaxy Xcover 5 it works fine.
Roger
ok just talked with Sebastian: “…the mapping library requires a graphics chip with support for OpenGL ES 3. That’s the only thing that changed in the latest releases The latest version requires a specific graphic chip…”
Looks like min. 1920 x 1200 display resolution is required. It works on my other tablet with Android 8 but 1920 X 1200
Yes, sadly this means some older devices won’t be able to run PoLo after the March version.
Not updating these libraries would make it a lot harder and slower to keep developing PoLo, so it’s a tradeoff we have to make.
It’s not related to android versions (right now we require Android 7 at a minimum) but with graphics chipsets and android builds with support for OpenGL ES 3.
Older devices might have manufacturer software updates that provide OpenGL ES 3, so make sure you have applied all these updates.
Sad to hear. Is there a way to download an older version?
I could provide APK files that can be sideloaded. But then I’d have to come up with mechanisms to manage those releases, provide updates etc. And I really do not want to open this can of worms because I will add additional complexity managing each release.
It’s hard to believe. My Samsung Tablet A isn’t that old. It has One UI version 3.1, Android version 11 with all security updates. The Polo version from April 25, pre-8, worked, but pre-9 crashes.
If you were able to install pre7, 8 or 9, then your tablet supports the right graphics modes, but something else is making it crash.
Does it just close the app? When?
Yes, Polo worked with pre-7 and pre-8. The problem only arose with pre-9. When I start the app, only the splash screen appears without any text for about two seconds, and then the app closes. Thanks, Roger.
Roger,
How much free memory does this device have?
Alan
Hi Alan, do you mean RAM or storage space? RAM is 2 GB but usable only about 700 MB, Storage 12GB.
I checked the graphic processor on my Samsung Galaxy Active Tab2 tablet: it is an ARM Mali-T830 MP3. According to the spec it should support openGL ES3.2 but Ham2K pre9 is not working. Resolution is 1280 X 800.
My Huawei Mediapad M5 lite10 has the same graphic chip and Ham2K pre9 is working perfectly. The resolution is 1920 x 1200.
I think it is not a question of RAM. Both of the tablets do have 3GB of RAM.
On the Samsung free 1,8GB on the Huawei free 1,2GB.
I mean in PoLo developer Settings - not the device.
You may need to activate developer mode to see this setting option
As far as RAM is concerned, it still depends on available RAM not total installed.
Alan
I don’t speak German - does this mean 416Mb free?
I have 2.2 Gb free.
Alan
Alan,
on my side the tablet with lower free RAM has no problems (Huawei = 1,2GB free).
The one with more free RAM cannot run Ham2K pre9 ( Samsung = 1,8GB free)
Yes, this means 400 MB free…
