Would like QSO map to reflect alternate state (location)

I’m not sure if this is a bug report - or a new feature request… I swear this functionality existed previously in the iOS app… perhaps it went away with a recent update?

A lot of my QSO’s are with snowbirds. When they tell me they’re in Arizona instead of Minnesota for instance, I manually enter “AZ” into the State field.

In version 26.2.1, the map feature ignores the manually entered state and uses the gridsquare lookup. If would be awesome if instead, it used the manually entered state – perhaps putting the pin in the middle of the manual state.

Thank you for your consideration!

If this ever happened before for you - then it’s because there was NO grid for the QSO. Either you had no lookups enabled, or the contacts had no details to provide.

You may be able to enable this by actually removing the gridsquare. There’s never been an option to ignore the grid if it exists.

Removing the grid and using the State will also only work if there is no lookup history for the callsign.

Try this action on a QSO with a callsign you have never worked before..

Thanks for the reply. I actually can’t remove the grid entry… if I remove it and hit the back arrow, then go back into the QSO details, the grid is still populated.

You’re right - once there is a lookup history for someone, there’s no way to override it in the future.

It would be a nice feature to have - to be able to easily override the location for QSO’s with HAM’s that are traveling, etc.

Edit the qso, remove the grid and save it. The grid is removed. I’ve done this several times to check. The map now has state centroid.

Maybe you are forgetting to save the qso after the change - on the blue entry form hit the save button

Alan

Thank you, and my apologies. You are indeed correct. I was removing the gridsquare and hitting the back arrow, but missed the crucial step of then hitting the save icon.

Changing the state and removing the gridsquare from a QSO and saving the modification indeed forces the map to draw the QSO line to the center of the modified state.

Thanks for pointing me in the right direction, Alan.
