Not completely a bug, but the Spot list instantly disappears if cellular connection is lost. It happened to me several times while activating in areas with bad cell coverage. I see the list of spots, and by the time I select one to try an S2S, the entire list disappears.
It would be best to notify user that cell conneciton was last updated x minutes ago rather than erasing the entire spot list.
Even better, reading spots every few minutes in background would help those with spotty cell coverage. We could get usable spot lists captured during the few minutes when cell signal was on.
I was going to write a post about this behavior and requesting a change but your “similar topics” feature brought me here.
I too have lost my list of recent spots when my cellular internet connection is borderline. I would prefer behavior similar to this:
If there are no spots, the spots list would say “No spots”
If spots could not be retrieved, so the list is empty, the spots list would say something like “cannot retrieve spots”
If the spots list has some recent entries, but the list cannot be updated (no internet), keep the existing list but the spots list would say something like “3 spots – cannot retrieve new spots”
If the spots list cannot be updated and has only entries older than the “Maximum Age” filter the spots list would say something like “cannot retrieve spots” or “No recent spots, cannot retrieve new spots”
Thanks for the post. We may be able to do something like this a little later. There is a lot being developed atm e.g. Desktop, CAT control, Syncing…
And we need to consider that the bulk of our time is spent either with coverage, or without it. I know I just live with it and still get my activation done. It’s a challenge and it’s fun enlisting other operators for assistance. And sometimes holding my phone up in the air will bring my spots in.
So spending a lot of time on this type of application behaviour at this time is probably not going to rise to the top of the list for a while.
I too find the disappearing spots behavior to be annoying. I rely more on SotaGoat on iOS because of this. It has its own limitations but holds onto data better in poor condx.
