Hi,
One of my contacts with a Canadian callsign is showing up in India on the map. Everything on the log page is correct. Is this a known problem?
What is their callsign? Have you checked their QZ page? They may have recorded their grid incorrectly.
Canada versus India sounds like they have entered the lat long with the wrong sign (-/+)

VA3CCO is the call, and their Grid Square FN03bm shows correct. Here’s what displays on my map page.
Are you using QRZ with a paid subscription? or do you have another lookup service enabled in PoLo e.g. HAMQTH?
Or do you have historical data installed in PoLo which may contain the error?
And when you inspect the “More” info in the QSO in question, is the gridsquare correct there? FN03bm.
If the grid in “More” is incorrect then it has pulled the incorrect grid from somewhere.
If you change the grid in “More” to the correct grid, the map should be changed also.
In short, there is no “known issue” for randomly placing contacts in the wrong grid. The grid has to have been pulled from somewhere. If the grid is missing then a location is derived from the BIG.CTY file and may place a contact in the centroid of the country which it lists.

If you are using a free QRZ account for lookups, then you will never get a callsign’s gridsquare. The XML data for free accounts is limited.
In which case, other lookup methods are used. There are no guarantees on the veracity of any lookup method. If QRZ is correct, then, in this instance, your grid lookup must be sourced from a source with incorrect data.

Found it! The problem was an incorrect grid square under the “More” tab. I’ll investigate to see if I can find where it pulled that data from.
Thanks for a quick resolution. You’re the best!
It’s likely that the app pulled the data from QRZ, where they had entered an incorrect grid. And then the operator corrected it on QRZ.
PoLo only does the lookup once, so the bad data would remain.
And if you later use the app while offline and happen to work this same ham, then the cached data in the app is used for lookups.
If you log him again while having a good internet connection, then the new QSO should indeed have the right grid.
Thank you. This is very helpful!
