I have set the “Keep device awake” option, but it’s not effective, the screen keeps locking with inactivity. This is true both at the home screen just showing “Quick Call Lookup…” and when in an operation.
Its still operating correctly on my Android device. So I don’t think it is PoLo. Is there a setting on the pixel settings that is conflicting woth this?
I thought I’d seen it go to sleep from an operation screen, but since I wasn’t aware of that limitation that it’s not supposed to work on the home screen, it’s possible that I have misremembered.
It’s a subtle issue. There’s no point in keeping the device awake in the home screen or settings, but there’s not much room in the settings screen to fully explain these details.
So we’re making the tradeoff of dealing with a bit of confusion like it just happened to you. If we see more users running into this, perhaps we can figure out better wording for the setting.
I’m sure I’m a special case. I’m learning CW, so I spend time just listening for head copy practice. So I had no idea that I needed to open an operation to keep the screen alive; I had been using the quick lookup on the main screen instead, in part because I didn’t want to accidentally click on “add to log” when I was just listening.
I am not clear on why you don’t want the setting to apply to the home screen.
But why not: Keep device awake
Prevent device from locking screen in operations
if you want to keep it open, just create a new general operation. then sit on the spots tab. It doesn’t matter about accidentally adding a qso. You can just delete the operation later.
AFA keeping the app alive, it’s probably just a good battery saving bevaviour. You know when you are active (in an operation) and when you are not active, on the home screen.
I think your use case is rather unique but the suggestion about a blank operation will assist you.

You can also: Navigate to the ‘Settings’ tab on your phone and tap on ‘Display’ option. Then choose ‘Screen Timeout’ option and enable ‘Never Sleep’ to disable screen timeout completely if you want.
