On Saturday, November 30th I was tasked with returning my grandson back to his parents house near Toledo, Ohio. Since I was so close to the boarder, and because I had already activated Ohio, I requested to use the club call in Michigan. It was a cold day that never got about 25ºF, so I kept the activation short.
My Request for the call sign was approved and so I went to Erie State Game Land in Michigan, set up my home-brewed vertical and KX2 and began to call CQ. I was able to snag 14 contacts in about 15 minutes logging with the Ham2K POLO app on my iPad with a bluetooth keyboard.
Running a different call sign is always a challenge, and I made a few mistakes, but with everyone being kind and patient, we made it through. And best of all, we were able to add Michigan to the activated states by our club.
