K2HRC at US-1976 Maumee Bay State Park in Ohio

On Saturday, November 30th I was tasked with returning my grandson back to his parents house. So I took the excuse to gather up my radio gear, request the use of the club call, and hit a park on the way home.

My Request for the call sign was approved and so I pulled into a parking lot that overlooked Lake Erie, placed my home brewed mag-mounted vertical on the Jeep roof and began calling CQ. I was using my KX2 from the front passenger seat. The 5 watts from the KX2 were effective in getting 19 contacts in 19 minutes by running CW. All of them logged with the Ham2K POLO app on my iPad with a bluetooth keyboard.

I must admit running a different call is always challenging. So much of the exchange, for me in POTA, is muscle memory. And so to switch from W8NI to K8HRC was awkward. But thanks to the patience of the hunters, we got the park activated. Thanks for the use of the call, and Ohio is now in the books.
