This could have been a threefer!!! However forgetting one cable required me to use the “use only in case of emergency” internal speaker of the (tr)uSDX.
See if you can tell what cable is missing from the image below
Here is a list of what I did bring:
HRD Industries:
LD6 Carbon fiber mast
EFHW
(tr)usdx
Sma coax
External Speaker (with internal battery)
12v Power wheels Battery
12v Power Splitter for voltage monitor and usb power source
What I didn’t bring:
The usb cable used to charge the active speaker battery….
The internal battery for the active speaker was dead and I could not charge it.
POTA really is good practice to check how ready you are to go portable and I learned a lesson today.
Being unsure about how well or enjoyable the activation would be using the internal speaker I didn’t want to hike down to the water. There are two water trails parks that pass by the park so if I go down into the shoreline it can be a threefer activation. But I stayed on a picnic bench near the car. If the internal speaker had not worked I would use the cars aux in, but I did not need to do that.
Here is a picture of the setup
(Picture removed, looks like I can only upload one media as a member) the setup was simple. EFHW in an inverted V going straight into the radio.
I did bring one of the kids and the dog that coupled with using the internal speaker, only having 5 watts, and it being a beautiful day and very busy for POTA, I only hunted P2Ps. I did not call CQ. I also only made the minimum to activate.
But I got MD activated for K2HRC!
