Greetings all!
One of my favorite places to activate is Monte Sano State Park in north Alabama near Huntsville. It has many pavilions, park benches, and large open areas for antennas.
It was a pretty chilly day (41F/5C), but sunny and not too much wind. This was the day after the US holiday of Thanksgiving, so I thought there would not be too many people at the park, however there were quite a few!
A short hike from the parking lot was a nice picnic table where I set up to operate. I brought my MacBook for logging with PoLo, my KX3, and my new Bamatech TP-III 2024 Sonderedition.
I set up a POTA20 with a ground spike, and used a 9:1 balun for my EFRW 35’ antenna.
I also recorded this activation and just finished editing it if you’d like to follow along
I ended up with 15 qsos in about 20 minutes (only 14 on video - Sebastian was the last contact after I had turned off the camera). I usually operate for many hours at a time, but the park closes at sundown and I got there pretty late in the day.
Thanks all!
