K2HRC at US-0952 Ocmulgee National Monument

I choose to activate this Ocmulgee National Monument because it was near I-75 as I passed on my way South. But what I discovered was amazing. The activation went as usual. I activated SSB for the club this time so I didn’t have to send CW and confuse myself again. HiHi. I did have some Coax issues, but nothing I can’t fix… and the PoLo software… perfect.

But what I found amazing was the several monuments in the park. The Ocmulgee park is a prehistoric American Indian site, where many different American Indian cultures lived for thousands of years. It is believed that the first settlers came here around 10,000BC as they hunted Ice Age mammals. From that point forward, several people and tribes occupied this land.

Most notably the The Mississippians, who arrived around 900 AD, constructed a large ceremonial complex and town, that can still be seen today. The picture I included is me in front of the Big Temple Mound built by Mississippians; well worth the visit and a climb to the top. This park is steeped in History, and has a ton of walking trails. So if you ever want to activate this park… make sure you take a lot of time, maybe a couple hours, and truly enjoy a look back in history.

Awesome location!!!
