GPS entry for location of POTA

Is it possible to include the current GPS location coordinates (exact current location NOT default park location) when starting activation (obtained via iPhone using PoLo) and have that location included in activation log (informational) and also in exported ADI file? I’ve tried manually using “Notes” in “Operation Details” but that information is not exported in the ADI file.

In the operation options screen there’s a “Location” row, tap there and you can use the current GPS location.

It is saved as a maidenhead grid, not latitude and longitude. But in the general settings you can enable 8-digit grids, which should provide plenty of precision.

Thanks for your reply. That helps a little. However, I just exported the POTA file and the ADI file created has no GPS (8-digit grid) info in it.

If possible, it’d be nice if the “Notes” section of the “Operation Details” would also be added to exported ADI file. I can put GPS info there but even that doesn’t help if it’s not exported to ADI file.

Look at the “Full ADIF” export. The POTA export only includes the minimum fields needed for submission.

Never thought of using that before! However, it’s still not GPS coordinates. I’m trying to record the exact location I setup to do the POTA for a Google map I keep of ALL activation locations.

With that said, it’s good to be a Senior Linux Engineer! I found a very nice command line ADIF viewer / editor on github called “adifmt” that I might put to use. I’ve been wanting to include exact location AND weather info in the ADI file. It’s more steps but it’ll work with this “adifmt” command. It just means another “post-processing” step but I can probably get it automated.

I actually take a meshtastic “weather station” with me on trips including POTA activations which I’ll pull the weather info and save.
