In the Europe we often spot ourselves on WhatsApp groups.
I appreciate WhatsApp isn’t big in North America but what would be handy is if I could touch and hold the self spotting button and it would copy the operational data to clipboard eg
G6CKK
7166
Pota GB-0001
Bota B/G-0001
WAB TQ77
Grid JO01GK
In the particular Bunkers WhatsApp group (public) I’m on there are 175 members in the Spots and Alert group.
That would then require all the members to then check the spots. I usually get a QSO in under 15 seconds from these spots and Bunkers require 25 so I’m trying to make finding me as easy as possible.
If someone sees an alert they then have to do a middle process to find where I am, or I just post the information. (The group is for posting spots rather than come and find me).
I appreciate this is a first world problem but from the first QSO the community will spot me everywhere.
As an example last night I was sat in a field in the dark with 3degC, howling wind not being able to feel my fingers and wanted the activation over as reasonable possible (hence my idea) so I’m just seeing if the process could be added to pull the info direct from the app setting to clip board.
Bob,
I’m not in charge of it. We’ll see what Sebastian thinks.
I appreciate the attractiveness of this group chat but I have to say I have done a lot to get people armed with access to public spots, GMA and HamAlert alerts etc. Trying to get the KFF group off Facebook as their primary means of spotting is also a challenge.
Fitting in with already very powerful solutions would be my first port of call.

I’ve been thinking about adding a bunch of features around spotting, including spotting to discord, generic webhooks, etc, and using templates to define the messages you want to send.
I hadn’t thought about this particular use-case, but it should not be hard to add a “copy spot text to clipboard” extension to spots that would do this automatically any time you spot.
No promises, but I might add this to the April release.
I have no idea what “KFF” is, I did try Googling it first but in the UK we have a food company called KFF and I had a 1000 hits, could you point me in the right direction please.
I only started Pota in November and I had download the Pola app after I watched a video by Mike K8MRD, then I forgot I had downloaded it.
I then watched another video of Mike’s and thought I’d have a go at Pota. I’ve never operated HF in my 40yrs so it was all self taught and I used the Pola app to spot myself.
I now understand what it means when someone says “I’ll spot you,” but I have never signed up or visited any other spotting website apart from the Pota website.
So the ones you mention I have never heard of (no offence meant).
Personally for me Pota is about getting antennas up in trees and working QRP and logging the guys accurately who call me.
The Pota and Bunker community are fantastic here in Europe and once I make one contact the community constantly spots me so personally I have no need to spot myslef unless I QSY or go QRT.
I regularly have guys who have got my back and will check in to make sure I have my 10 to 25 contacts and they go and drum up activity for me if it’s a slow day or conditions are poor.
What I’m saying is I only need to advertise my activation in a couple of prominet places and the community does the rest for me.
I started my HF journey once all the technology was in place, e.g radios with built in ATUs and the world at my finger tips on my phone. So the natural path for me was Pola, FB & WhatsApp.
However if you would like to share other spotting websites or tricks you think will help me feel free to email me as everyday is a school day.
If you could that would be great (It must be time to buy you some more coffees
Perhaps I’m being lazy but sometime my fat finger and dyslexia get the better of me and getting the info straight to clip board would help me personally.
Bob,
First there was World Wide Flora and Fauna (WWFF). Then there was Parks on the Air (POTA) which is a fork of WWFF.
The parks in WWFF for US are prefixed with KFF-. The parks in Australia are prefixed VKFF-. etc. See this link for more information. https://wwff.co/
Global Mountain Activity (GMA) is run by DARC and provides sophisticated spotting for a lot of the major portable activities in Amateur Radio.
IMHO, the more we amateurs avail ourselves of services which are provided specifically for the task at hand, the more others esp newcomers, will join in and also use these services. Using exotic measures to spot yourself may be good for the small group you are a member of but will not be helpful to newcomers.
