[Feature Request] RST auto completion

In SOTA CW pileups, the QSO rate can be 2-3 per minute. When logging, every second counts. Usually, the only variable in RS[T] is the signal strength S. That’s what I write down when using paper & pencil.
I would like to propose an RST auto completion as follows:
A single-digit entry in an RST field is completed with R=5 and (CW only) T=9.
2 examples: 5 in CW becomes 559, 7 in SSB/FM becomes 57.

I’d add that signal reports lower than 5 might become 2 → 22 or 229, 3 → 33 or 339, and 4 → 44 or 449

IME a signal report of 11 in SSB is a bit of a nonsense and 22 is a report which is given later via email to explain to an op why you couldnt’ complete the qso… :slight_smile: if indeed you knew who it was at all.
But 51 and 52 is an often given sig report which makes sense
So a single 2 or 1 becoming 11 or 22 is a bit strange

Most important in real life are the top rows (S5…S9).

Here’s what I’m thinking, to keep it simple.

I’ll go with the original proposal. Keep the 5 (and last 9 in CW) and only replace the second digit.

If you want to give 22 or 33 (which I often do, but it’s obviously not a broad convention) then you type the whole thing.

I’ve added this on the latest “March pre 2” release.

And because life wouldn’t be fun if we always do what we say we’d do, I changed it a bit.

Right now, it will do 1 → 31, 2 → 32, 3 → 33, 4 → 44, 5 → 55, 6 → 56, etc.

Hopefully this should be acceptable to HB9BRJ but also VK1AO, and myself.

RST auto completion is triggered by leaving an RST field, but not
by saving the QSO:

  • enter Their Call
  • enter “9” into “Sent”
  • enter “7” into “Rcvd” (which will change “Sent” to 599)
  • save QSO (no auto complete of RST “Rcvd”)

Workaround: Tap “Sent” again before saving the QSO.
Would appreciate if auto completion was also triggered when saving the QSO.

This is still in the May release - you need to exit the Rcvd to get the RST completed… Maybe the Send button can trigger the RST completion as well if it contains only 1 (SSB) or 2 (CW) characters
