Editing existing entry - details not updated

I was entering an activation log from paper into PoLo, and accidentally entered Marty as K4KC rather than VK4KC. I went back and edited the mistake in the PoLo operation log, however this change did not propagate through the rest of the program, e.g. it continued to show I had a USA QSO in the summary area. When it came to upload the activation ADIF to POTA, the ADIF contained details for the USA callsign K4VC, i.e. my edit wasn’t carried through to the ADIF export.

The workaround is to delete the erroneous entry and re-enter the correct details, however I think edits should update other parts of the program.

Actually, it’s a little bit worse than just this. Even after deleting the wrong entry, Roger R Bettin from Atlantis FL keeps showing up, even in new operations, and other callsigns.

I tried this scenario on my iPad, but couldn’t reproduce the issue

OK well we are not sure of the exact steps you took to get into this… but can you try this option and see if the log is cleared and updated correctly?

Thanks for the replies.

I’ve uninstalled and reinstalled to try and solve this issue so I don’t have the example I posted, but here’s what I did on a new installation and new operation (Samsung GalaxyTab S4, Android 10);

  • entered K4KC
  • entered VK1AO
  • went back to the first entry and corrected it to VK4KC
  • entered another QSO with VK4KC
  • selected “Lookup all QSO’s” added the star

Maybe there’s just something screwy with my system, I haven’t been able to get names/notes lookups working reliably despite multiple reinstalls and fiddling for the last six months.

Cheers, Ian.

OK well I followed your steps, and as soon as I get to the adding V in front of K for K4KC, the name changes to Marty
I can go back and delete the V and I get Roger, then I can go back and add th V again and I get Marty straight away.
I’ve done this on my Galaxy Tab A7 and my

So let’s start with the version you have installed and what remnants of the names file you have there.
Is this the version you have?
image

And what names file do you have a link to?

Also - are you running free QRZ? or do you have a paid subscription? and do you have any other systems enabled here?

Alan

Thanks Alan,

version 24.12.1 - Build 24.12.0 (2412002)

I’m running my own names file, I’m fairly sure I’ve tried disabling it with the same result but I’ll check again. I’ve tried UTF-8 and ANSI encoding without success. It begins;
VK0BP Bob
VK0TH Trevor
VK1ACE Rod
VK1AD Andrew
VK1AL Alan

I have a paid QRZ but haven’t enabled my account on the new install I used for the example I posted. Some other systems must have been enabled by default on reinstall, they were turned off for the first example I gave. I’ll disable all but QRZ and callsign notes as you suggest and try again.

Might be as little while, dinner has been served!

Cheers,

Ian

Just remember that the contents of the names file will NOT be stored in the log. It is only for display on the entry panel. So to eliminate another variable, just deactivate and or delete the names file for the initial test here.
Alan

I saw your recent post about names not being transferred to the log and that’s OK, all I want is a name to pop up above the call entry box so I can say “Hi Alan!”

So I did a fresh install, and only had QRZ and Callsign Notes (with the built in “Hams of Note” only, no custom file) active.

Now when I enter callsigns all that shows up is a country flag and nothing else. After entering a few QSO’s I clicked “Lookup all QSO’s” and all that came up were the emoji’s, no names or other details.

Roger was not in my names file, so it must have been pulled from the Hams of Note, but isn’t now for some reason. Nothing seems to be making much sense.

Please don’t waste too much time on this, I think I’ll just accept that I’ll have to do without the aide memoire of a names file.

Cheers,

Ian.

I think I would check your QRZ credentials. Remember, it’s your callsign, not your email address and not the API key, but your password.
Alan

and I assume you have NOT enabled the 2FA for the QRZ account

Good morning Alan!

Thanks for the time you’ve put in trying to help me out.

You’re on the money!

So the latest example I posted above was a new install, with callsign notes and QRZ activated in Data Lookup. I hadn’t entered my QRZ login, so you are correct that it’s a login issue.

With the earlier examples, (the really messed up ones), I did have my correct QRZ details (callsign and password) so I’m not sure what was happening there.

So just to clarify;

  • if online, the program will retrieve a name from QRZ only,
  • if (and only if) offline, will names be retrieved from the offline files.

It seems a bit obvious now, especially reading posts where people go into flight mode to test offline name files. I was assuming that it would retrieve names from the name file regardless. I’ll now go into flight mode to check if my names file works.

It seems that when online and a QRZ lookup fails (as in my last post) that the program does nothing, and leaves it at that. Perhaps a message indicating a failure (eg “No QRZ record”) or a fallback to the names file (“No QRZ or offline record”) might be helpful? Perhaps a “Failed QRZ Login” message when entering QRZ details, or the ability to reveal (un-asterisk) the password to check?

Once again, thanks for your help,

Ian

(PS: I’ve just run a test in flight mode and I am not getting any information from the Hams of Note or my custom names file while offline. I’m not in the mood to pursue this at the moment so I’ll be content that at least QRZ lookups are working while online)
