Displaying GMA spots on the SPOTS tab in Polo

Hi there, is there a way to offer a display for GMA spots from their official QRV source on the SPOTS tab in Polo like for the current 3 sources “SOTA”, “POTA” and “WWFF”?

Thanks in advance and vy 73, Markus

AFAIAA, WWBOTA has it’s own cluster and spots can be enabled or disabled if you enable the activity.

WWFF has moved off GMA to SpotLine by default so there is a separate filter for these.

GMA, English Castles, Lighthouses spots will be retrieved and you will spot to GMA for these activities if enabled. They will appear according to your regional filter e.g. Europe ON/OFF

Are you saying that you do not see the spots for these 3 activities?

Hi Alan

Thanks for your explanations.

GMA is turned on as a location-based activity in the “App Features” section of the Settings in my Polo installations on Android and iOS, but this doesn’t turn on a forth possibility “GMA” in the “Spot Sources” section of the settings page of the SPOTS tab. This is what I had understood from above. I don’t see spots for GMA references in Polo or a switch to turn on/off such, despite their homepage cqgma.org shows such spots on their QRV/cluster page. Or do I have misunderstood something?

I would appreciate to see spots for GMA references on the SPOTS tab – this to use the comfy side of Polo and to tap such a spot line to copy its data incl. all given references to the QSO logging line like for SOTA, POTA or WWFF!

On the other side, spotting myself GMA references out of Polo has worked, it brings a spot to their QRV/cluster page with all necessary details. But this was not my topic.

Thanks for your support.

OK - it’s just that I am not convinced no GMA spots appear now.

There are no Castles or Lighthouses currently being activated so unless you do a test spot for one we won’t know. Those 2 are the only ones which should appear for GMA since SOTA is done via SOTA.

At this GMA QRV Watch site:

The only band, of the 3, relevant is the top band. SOTA will be via SOTAWatch anyway, and PoLo does not retrieve from the Cluster.

And all of the current (as of this post) spots are SOTA anyway. And just as I post this, the top band (GMA) vanished completely because they are so old.

Markus,

You must also remember that if you had one switch for GMA which turned of all individual activities, then we would have the castle ops asking why they get lighthouse spots in with their castle spots and vice versa. The way it is, there is more granular control of what activities which currently exist with GMA and also as more are added.

A good point – since “GMA” is not only a further programme like SOTA or POTA but also the name for a spotting facility for various subprogrammes, it should be kept clear, that “GMA spots” according to my discussion in this thread means ONLY the summit-based mountain programme with these mountain codes similar to the SOTA references. And to be precise at 200%, this would NOT include the SOTA spots that are repeated within GMA since they include the SOTA references to be activated also under the rules of the GMA programme.

Thus, and a bit shorter: when I discuss here a missing 4th line “GMA mountains”, this refers to spots regarding these DA/xx-nnn or OL/xx-nnn or HB9/xx-nnn etc. references distributed by the GMA spotting facility – without mills or castles, and without the repeated SOTA spots (and very recently: without the repeated POTA spots).

I have heard that the Polo guys had been offered help by the GMA guys to display the GMA spots but are said to have said that they could retrieve that of their own and would not need support. Looking at the current public GMA API descriptions on their website, I would clearly say that a further and more customized API call would be needed to receive the good source for GMA spots for GMA-own mountain references to be offered then for Polo users as a 4th unique spotting source.

At this time, when you activate GMA summits, Castles or Lighthouse refs, you will spot to GMA, but spots are not retrieved into PoLo. You need to check for spots on their website.

That is what I can see of my own too, hi. That was the reason that I suggested here to offer these spots also to the Polo users, since the GMA programme is widely common according to my humble experience.
