When switching map to a larger format, I am seeing that the contacts made are disappearing when the switch is made.
Which version is this? April prerelease?
latest pre-release maps are fine here on google map
Alan
I’m using the most up to date on the latest version using an iPad with up to version
Yes, there is a problem with maps on iOS on the April release.
Map markers seem to work sometimes but not always, and sometimes they work only to disappear when you move around.
Fixing this requires basically replacing the entire map component and retooling with a different library, so I need to decide between releasing the April version as-is and work on this for May, or hold the April release for a few weeks.
I’ll investigate further this weekend before making the call.
Well, I didn’t want to open a can of worms. Sounds like a lot of work. Personally it’s not an issue for me, but I thought it should be brought up. Thank you again for such a great POTA + app .
You probably already found this but the spots disappear after zooming in or out, panning makes them come back.
Had a lot of dx this weekend, so can’t get enough from looking at the map
You didn’t open the can of worms, @N4NB, I opened it myself and you just tripped on it.
I ended up taking the hard path and replaced the entire mapping component.
Please give this new “pre” release a good shakedown.
I have to say I’m disappointed with the decision to move to Mapbox for the native maps on iOS. One of the huge reasons I like this app so much was that it used Apple Maps natively. I’m not sure what’s changed that Apple Maps could no longer be used. I’m still using the beta versions in Test Flight. Once again thank you for such an awesome POTA logging app, nothing else compares.
Sadly, the mapping library that provides access to Apple Maps (and Google on Android) has not been updated to work with the latest versions of React Native.
Mapbox does provide some advantages, besides working with the latest React Native, such as the ability to zoom out to show the entire map, the “globe” projection, better performance, etc.
If the library for Apple Maps ever fixes their issues with React Native, I might consider adding it back as an option. But for now, we have to go with Mapbox.
