Updating satellite list

If you open the link above, you will see top right corner and pen icon

If you don’t see it, then you just need to login or create an account with GitHub, just like you would with any other service which needs an account. There will be a button on the page somewhere to create an account.. follow the prompts.

Once logged in, you just click the Edit button as above and edit the file inline - on that page…

When you are finished edits, you will tap the Commit Changes button

A lot of this described in this video on editing the documents:

And once you get the hang of it you’ll be able t come back and add/edit satellites as you wish..

This will help you and a lot of other satellite users.

The changes you make will not go live straightaway. They need to be approved and merged, so don’t worry about making a mistake first up.. Just follow the syntax as you see it.

Scroll down till you see this

And just make the change to ARISS as you want.. then Commit.

Alan

Ok, thanks, will give it a try. Looks like I will have to create a login.

It would be great to have the “satellite” OPs looking after their satellites..

Alan

And when a satellite is decommissioned or otherwise has maybe a “Rapid Unscheduled Disassembly”

You can remove it from the list…

Alan

Let us know if you have any questions - if we get it done it can go out in the September pre-releases

Alan

I’ve heard the ISS is going to be decommissioned around 2030. Ok, I just made the change from “ISS” to “ARISS”.

And you Committed? and maybe you need to Pull Request… do you see that?

Alan

I’m also assuming that the number was the one you wanted to change and the frequencies matched?

Alan

The frequencies were correct. It was only the name. LotW doesn’t recognize “ISS” only ARISS. When I sent a polo log with sats info LotW showed an error so I had to use ADIF Master to change the name. But that was all.

I “committed” but did not do a pull request.

Do a Pull Request

Commit is saving, Pull Request is sending it for approval. Sebastian will then check, approve and merge it

Alan

That would make it easier on you all.

Ok, I have a repository which I named “polo-logger” and I am in the pull request window. What do I do next?

There should be a big Pull Request button like the Commit button. It requires that you add a title and some comments on what you have changed - make it simple. And the button should become active (bright green).

Once you do the Pull, it will go off and do a whole lot checking and replying about what it’s doing/done. And that’s as far as you go.

A notification will come up on the Development channel that you have asked for approval

Alan

Oh yes!!! Sorry, I totally forgot about that. Once I selected commit, that box popped up and I indicated what I had changed. I typed “Changed name from ISS to ARISS” and submitted that. Yes I completely forgot to mention that.

You saw this?

You should then get a page that looks a little like this

No, it was a small box. I looked up the change and this is what I see right now:

and what’s down the bottom of that page?

Just this and nothing else. Should I subscribe?

And you never saw this?
